COMMUNITY

CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION FIELD

FROM FRESCOS IN THE ERMIDA DE SÃO BRÁS

FROM SEPTEMBER 22ND TO OCTOBER 5TH | PORTEL | ALENTEJO
TRAINING

The fresco painting technique is one of the oldest forms of mural covering in the Alentejo, present in many chapels and hermitages. This unique style, often at risk of disappearing, will be the focus of the Heritage Camp. The camp aims to preserve this declining technique and help in the conservation of the frescoes in the Chapel of S. Brás.

The Heritage Camp will bring together French and Portuguese participants, who will be guided by conservators and restorers with over 20 years of experience in mural painting. Activities will include:

  • Waste cleaning

  • Consolidation

  • Fixation

  • Chromatic reintegration of paintings

These activities will allow participants to acquire practical skills in the conservation and restoration of frescoes, learning the entire process and use of materials, directly contributing to the preservation of local cultural heritage.
