ARTS & CRAFTS IMMERSION
CERAMICS
WITH HELENA GARCIA
SEPTEMBER 1ST TO 5TH
ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Creator of the Alpiota project with a studio in Alcáçovas.
Currently developing a research project on Ceramics, Nature and the Feminine, in the Master's Degree in Artistic Practices in Visual Arts at the University of Évora, she has initial training and career in teaching Visual Education and a postgraduate degree in Visual Arts/Intermedia. Her journey through ceramics combines a process of self-taught exploration developed over the years with various training courses at Cencal and Ar.Co, since 2015.
Her work is linked to the identity of the place she lives in, through the search for simplicity in techniques and materials, with participatory projects in the community, and work that began with pottery and has focused over time on ancestral manual construction processes and image transfer techniques such as lithography on ceramics.
SUMMARY
Working with clay follows very specific cycles. Gathered from the earth, clay is worked with water, hands and the sun and then fired. Helena will lead the participants in this Immersion through an exploration of natural elements as well as time and memory, using the ceramic lithography technique. This technique, which allows any drawn or photographic image to be transferred to clay, will enable participants to make a connection with this material and their surroundings.
