ARQUITERRA Project
Local Sustainability Project through Creative Tourism and Volunteering
The project “Arquiterra - Local Sustainability Project through Creative Tourism and Volunteering” has as its main objective the promotion of local sustainability through the preservation and enhancement of the heritage of local communities, as well as the creation of innovative tourism dynamics, particularly in the creative and volunteering fields, with a focus on accessibility for various types of audiences (specialists and generalists) and the promotion of the territory.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
• Valuing traditional construction techniques by using intergenerational dynamics and combining theory and practice in a collaborative participation model: Technical Workshops within a Creative Tourism and Volunteer framework and a Heritage Education Program;
• Promoting knowledge through its systematization, as advocated by mapping, photographic documentation, documentary production, and brochure publication;
• Direct contribution to the inclusion of these practices in a tourism context;
• Development and provision of new tourism programs based on services and experiences at the interface between residents and tourists;
• Effective revitalization of the territory's heritage;
• Possibility of replicating the project in another context;
• Ensuring the best possible participation of all audiences in the implemented activities, with special attention to the local senior and younger community;
• To provide an informal and formal, intergenerational and international educational context in the field of materials and construction and decorative techniques characteristic of the Alentejo region, effectively revitalizing heritage elements;
• To make it clear for posterity and future replicability that the use of local techniques and materials is a real possibility for sustainable rehabilitation and repurposing;
• To contribute to the creation of a culture of safeguarding local heritage in the intervention area and in the Alentejo region.
