ARTS & CRAFTS IMMERSION
WOOL AND ARRAIOLOS EMBROIDERY
WITH SARA RATOLA (A RENDEIRA)
SEPTEMBER 4TH TO 7TH
ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Textile artist, born in 1983 and originally from Aveiro.
"I'm passionate about art and I was lucky enough to walk barefoot on the earth with my grandparents from an early age. These two aspects that are so important to me, Art and the Earth, led me to choose Landscape Architecture as my major. With the twists and turns that life takes, and what good twists and turns they are, I decided to create A Rendeira. I haven't separated myself from Art or the Earth, I just combine them in a different way."
SUMMARY
Are you familiar with Arraiolos rugs? Apart from the imagery tradition that has been installed under these objects, Arraiolos embroidery thrives on its technical specificity, the materials it brings together and the way it represents the Alentejo way of being. In this 4-day immersion with the artist Sara Ratola, you will take a journey through all the dimensions that this traditional knowledge involves: from the wool cycle to the creation of an embroidery inspired by the Alentejo landscape, including the dyeing of the threads; no step will be forgotten so that you can strengthen your relationship with this know-how.
