ARTS & CRAFTS IMMERSION
ARRAIOLOS EMBROIDERY
WITH SARA RATOLA (A RENDEIRA)
November 29th to December 1st
ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Textile artist, born in 1983 and a native of Aveiro.
“I am passionate about Art and I was fortunate enough to have walked barefoot on the Earth with my grandparents since I was little. These two aspects, so important to me, Art and Earth, led me to choose Landscape Architecture for my training. With the twists and turns that life takes, and how good those twists are, I decided to create A Rendeira. I haven't separated myself from either Art or Earth, I just combine them in a different way.”
SUMMARY
Are you familiar with Arraiolos carpets? Beyond their characteristic imagery, Arraiolos embroidery stands out for its unique technique, the materials it uses, and how it reflects the Alentejo way of life.
In this 3-day immersion with artist Sara Ratola, participants will be guided through all dimensions of this traditional know-how. They will have the opportunity to create embroidery inspired by the Alentejo landscape or the frescoes found in various chapels and churches in the region. No step will be missed, providing a complete experience and a deep connection to this living heritage.
