SEASONAL TOURS | 1 DAY
TOWERS OF NOBILITY:
CASTLES, PALACES AND FORT HOUSES
NEW DATES COMING SOON
The dwelling house, as the permanent seat of a nobleman, has a symbolic value that is reflected above all in its architecture, decorative arts and location. The nobility that descended on the Alentejo, surrounded by the lands of the religious orders, reflected their splendor and asserted their power in unique ways, typical of the local history and territorial characteristics: it is this unknown, private and ancestral history that we propose in this Spira LAB - Tours.
This tour begins in Évora, at the Paço dos Duques de Cadaval with its Torre das Cinco Quinas, where we discover the dialogue between the Paço, the Tower and the fortification elements from the four-century commission of Martim Afonso de Melo, nobleman of King João I to the present day: it is this unknown, private and ancestral history that we propose in this Spira LAB - Tours.
We leave the city and enter the countryside to find the Tower of António de Mira Sobrinho, dating back to the 16th century and set in the heart of the estate of Nossa Senhora da Boa Fé. We visit this peculiar Alentejo estate known as Torre da Giesteira, an example of the Alentejo Strong House and characteristic of manorial territories.
In the churchyard of the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, we enjoy a picnic and rest before moving on to the last stage of our tour.
We ended the day at Paço da Oliveira, now owned by winemaker António Maçanita, momentarily diverting our attention to the vineyards of the Alentejo. We visit the winery, taste the famous wines and, at the end, guided by a speech by Professor José Custódio Vieira da Silva, we visit the old Paço, part of a domain set up there in the 13th century by D. Martinho de Oliveira, also inaugurated with a tower.
